The Aussie Beef & Lamb brand was officially launched in the UK with a series of high-end tasting events at a world-renowned steakhouse in Mayfair.
The Aussie Beef & Lamb brand is synonymous with trusted and consistently high-quality red meat exports from Australia.
Goodman Steakhouse served up special meat-filled menus to showcase the very best of Australia to the UK audience. The delicious aroma of Aussie steaks sizzling on the grill enticed diners at two exclusive, interactive evenings. The wood-paneled saloon style private dining space at Goodman was the perfect setting for an evening centred on Australian beef. Goodman already features Australian beef on its menu.
Guests, who included food journalists, trade insiders, influencers, and chefs, had the chance to sample succulent, perfectly cooked premium cuts of Australian grain-fed beef and Australian grass-fed lamb.
They also learnt how Australian cattle and sheep are raised with the highest standards of sustainability, beef traceability, beef animal welfare, lamb traceability and lamb animal welfare in mind. High food standards, quality assurance and farm animal welfare are a priority for the Australian red meat industry.
“Our aim was to introduce our Aussie Beef & Lamb brand to the UK in a fun, engaging way – so what better way than to bring them to one of the UK’s best steakhouses and let them try it for real,” says Stephen Edwards, Business Manager for MLA in the UK.
“We served up some of our finest Australian lamb and beef products, including some highly marbled grain-fed beef, which are available here now. And of course, in the hands of expert chefs at Goodman it was a meat feast of epic proportions.
“I think everyone enjoyed it and we’ve busted a few myths along the way. It was a great opportunity to let everyone know what we’re all about at Aussie Beef & Lamb.”
Tantalising menus featured Australian Strip Sirloin and Jacks Creek Australian Wagyu Ribeye alongside some of the restaurants most popular sides and entrees. Sharing platters piled high with some of Australia’s finest steaks and lamb cuts wowed guests.
Goodman Executive Chef Tim Delaney is a longstanding advocate of Australian beef. Being immersed in the running of a first-class steakhouse, sourcing a product that is a consistently high-quality is invaluable to him, which is why he is always happy to recommend Aussie Beef & Lamb. He said:
“Obviously, being one of the best, if not the best steakhouse in the UK, we pride ourselves on using only the highest quality beef for our customers. Australian beef plays a big role on our menus, using various styles such as Wagyu through to grain fed beef cuts that, for me, are aged perfectly. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Australian beef.”
Tim has been using Australian beef heavily since April 2022 and became an Aussie Beef Mate in the early part of this year. This means he is an unpaid ambassador who sings the praises of Australian red meat to peers and industry contacts, highlighting its distinguishing features both here in the UK and globally.
One such point of difference is Australian grain-fed beef, which is recognised globally as some of the highest quality beef marbling available.
Stephen added:
“The beef that we enjoyed was all grain-fed. What grain-feeding does is give you much more intramuscular fat or beef marbling. It gives a nice buttery flavour to the meat and helps to make sure that the meat is tender and juicy.”
Grain-Fed Beef Eating Quality
And it went down extremely well with the guests, who praised the grain-fed beef for its unique flavour and texture. One food influencer was surprised at the difference in taste from that here in the UK:
“I think I expected it to be quite similar to what we have in the UK but actually it had quite a different flavour. I liked how smoky and textured the flavour was of both the sirloin and the Wagyu beef.”
Another attendee and BBQ expert concluded:
“The Australian lamb tonight was absolutely wonderful; I don’t think you could find lamb anywhere else like that. Thank you, Meat and Livestock Australia.”
The events were educational and challenged misconceptions about Australian red meat exports to the UK market, while also offering delicious food.
Guests discovered details of the sustainability of Australian beef and pasture-raised lamb. Australian farmers are committed to environmental sustainability and best farm practices. The entire Australian red meat industry, including sheep farms, are working towards net 0% greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and to date has reported a 65% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions (on a 2005 baseline) and reduced water usage in cattle production by 73% (since 1985).
Following an historic UK-Australia Free Trade Agreement (A-UKFTA) signed in June 2023 Australian beef imports and Australian lamb will be available to UK consumers alongside British beef and lamb.
The aim is to meet demand in the low season for British beef and lamb production and offer a point of difference for UK foodservice professionals and retail buyers looking for high-quality, consistent, and sustainable red meat products.
